SCHOOL HEADS OF SIKKIM GOVERMENT SCHOOL WELCOMES STATE GOVERMENT DECISION

Sanjay agarwal-rangpo -3rd july11: the School Heads of All Government Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools of Sikkim, along with the entire teaching fraternity welcome the historical decision of the State Government on establishing a Government Degree College at Gyalshing so as to cater to the needs of the students of far flung rural areas vis-a-vis the fulfilment of a long standing demand of the people of the concerned District and the nearby areas by the visionary leader Dr. Pawan Chamling, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim at its inaugural function on 28th June 2011.

Due to the continual guidance and reviewed policies of the State Government and HRDD, with the tireless efforts of the Heads of Institutions, teachers and students, this year (2011), Sikkim students recorded a high of 80% pass percentage ( 94% if compartmental results are include) in class XII. This led to 3863 students seeking admission in colleges and Polytechnic Institutes. Even if 30% of the pass students (1159) opt for professional courses and quota seats in various colleges outside the State and some private colleges, 2704 students are left with no option other than to seek admission in Government Colleges of the state. The 3 Government Colleges (Tadong, Namchi and Rhenock) can cater to only 2200 students at the most (1400+600+200).Therefore, the remaining 504 students’ access to higher studies is at stake. It is a noted fact that there is an increase in the number of students passing out from schools every year. Even the Central Minister for HRDD is repeatedly stressing on the need for increasing the number of colleges all over the country in order to cater to the needs of students. Considering all these facts, our Visionary Leader, the Hon’ble Chief Minister has taken the right step by starting the new Degree College at Gyalshing for the underprivileged mass of Sikkim.

Therefore, keeping the above facts in view & with justification from dimensional parameters, all persons have the confidence, positive mindset and change in attitude that everything will go smoothly, as far as the future education and career of our students are concerned. Everyone must aware of the fact that the parents, elders, stakeholders, elected representatives of the people and the well wishers are ethically responsible and aware about their challenging future. On top of these bodies, the Government and the concerned Departments are there to play the major role of supervision, monitoring and support so as to succeed in the mission of the people of the State for a noble cause for our society.
